Networking for wealth and growth

Hey there,

Kavit here. I’m feeling the September energy and I hope you are too.

I just can’t shake that “back-to-school” feeling of energy, enthusiasm, being ready to learn and building something better, all coupled with a little bit of positive anxiousness.

This is a great moment to reset and reshare with you the two things I hope the “Coaching Flywheel” represents.

Firstly, coaching is most powerful when we help our clients stack small, daily, repeatable wins, which built upon time, create magical momentum and outstanding results. As a receiver of coaching too, I’ve felt this too, and I am sure you have too.

And, second, the true path to building a sustainable, enjoyable, meaningful and profitable business — something we spend so many hours pouring our heart into — requires building a flywheel. We must take those small actions everyday, stay focused on the metrics that matter the most, keep honing our craft, and so on. This builds momentum and the flywheel spins. Almost such growth happens on its own. The effect is magnetic.

You’ve probably heard the age-old saying: "Your network is your net worth."

So many coaches focus solely on their craft, forgetting that sometimes, it's who you know that can really accelerate your growth.

This is top of mind for me. It’s been a week since I’m back from a 3-day program with 100 entrepreneurs and a few Harvard professors giving us the best training and case studies on the most cutting-edge ideas to keep business moving ahead. I met a lot of big-thinkers.

Let's dive into some strategies that can help you leverage the power of networking to supercharge your coaching business.

1. The "Reverse Coaching" Challenge

This is a simple and fun way to stand out with your coaching business.

Instead of telling potential clients what you can do for them, show them by coaching yourself publicly on a new skill or goal.

Here's how it works:

  1. Choose a Skill Outside Your Expertise: Pick something you've always wanted to learn but haven't yet — maybe it's learning to juggle, speak a new language, or master a complex origami design.

  2. Document Your Journey: Share your progress on social media, your blog, or YouTube. Be raw and real - show your struggles, breakthroughs, and everything in between.

  3. Apply Your Coaching Methods to Yourself: Use the same techniques you use with clients on yourself, explaining your process as you go.

  4. Invite Audience Participation: Ask your followers for advice, encouragement, or to join you in learning the new skill.

  5. Celebrate Milestones: When you achieve key milestones, tie them back to your coaching philosophy.

  6. Final Showcase: After a set period (say, 30 days), demonstrate your new skill and reflect on the journey.

Why does this work? It's marketing gold because it:

  • Demonstrates your coaching methods in action

  • Shows your human side, making you more relatable

  • Proves you practice what you preach

  • Creates engaging, shareable content

  • Attracts potential clients who resonate with your learning style

This strategy turns your marketing into a living case study. It's not just telling people you can help them achieve their goals — it's showing them, step by step, struggle by struggle, victory by victory.

2. The "Connector's Mindset"

To truly leverage the power of networking, we need to shift our mindset from "What can I get?" to "How can I connect?" This is what I call the "Connector's Mindset."

Here's how to cultivate this powerful mindset:

  • See Every Interaction as an Opportunity: Whether you're at a formal networking event or in line at the coffee shop, be open to making connections.

  • Listen More Than You Speak: Focus on understanding others' needs and challenges. The more you understand, the more valuable you can be.

  • Think "Who" Not "How": When faced with a challenge, instead of immediately trying to solve it yourself, ask "Who do I know that could help with this?"

  • Celebrate Others' Successes: When someone in your network achieves something great, be the first to congratulate them. This positivity will come back to you tenfold.

  • Follow Up Consistently: Don't let valuable connections slip away. Set reminders to follow up with new contacts within 48 hours of meeting them.

  • Give Without Expectation: Look for ways to add value to others without immediately expecting anything in return. This creates a reservoir of goodwill that will serve you well in the long run.

The goal isn't to collect the most business cards or LinkedIn connections. It's to build genuine relationships that can support your growth and allow you to support others.

As Keith Ferrazzi, author of "Never Eat Alone," says: "The currency of real networking is not greed but generosity."

By adopting the Connector's Mindset, you're not just growing your network – you're becoming a hub of value in your industry, which will naturally attract opportunities and accelerate your flywheel.

3. The Lewis Howes “Shake-More-Hands” Method

Lewis Howes, a lifestyle entrepreneur and former pro athlete, built his multi-million dollar coaching business largely through the power of networking.

In fact, he once made it his goal to shake EVERY member’s hand from each of the groups he had created. This led him to host tons of live mixers and networking events… which naturally led to hundreds of new opportunities.

Just one connection could change your life forever.

Here's how you can implement the "Shake-More-Hands" method:

  • Attend Industry Events Regularly: Make it a point to attend at least one relevant conference or networking event each month.

  • Set Connection Goals: Before each event, set a goal for the number of meaningful connections you want to make.

  • Follow Up Promptly: Within 24 hours of the event, reach out to your new connections with a personalized message.

  • Offer Value First: In your follow-up, share a resource or insight that's relevant to your conversation.

  • Create Your Own Events: Host small gatherings or meetups for people in your industry.

  • Leverage Online Platforms: Use LinkedIn and Twitter to expand your network beyond geographical boundaries.

  • Seek Speaking Opportunities: Offer to speak at events to position yourself as an expert and meet potential clients.

Your coaching business doesn't grow in isolation.

Every hand you shake, every connection you make, and every relationship you nurture is another spin of your coaching flywheel. The momentum you build through strategic networking can propel your business to heights you never thought possible.
