How to become a "premium" coach

Hey there,

Last week, a coach asked me how to charge premium rates.

“But I'm not really an expert yet,” they said.

Here’s what I told them:

Premium positioning isn't about being the most experienced coach. It's about creating an exceptional client experience and delivering transformative results.

Here’s how:

1. Design Your Signature System

Stop selling "coaching." Start selling a proven path to results.

Here's how:

→ Document your best client's journey from start to finish

→ Break it into 3-5 clear phases

→ Name each phase something memorable

→ Create a simple visual to represent it

Examples are…

  • Marie Kondo's KonMari Method

  • Peter Chee's Situational Coaching Model (SCM)

  • Brendon Burchard's High Performance Habits Framework

Now when someone asks what you do, you're not just "a coach" - you're the creator of the [Name] Method.

2. Upgrade Your Client Experience

Premium isn't just about the coaching - it's about the entire experience.

Here's your checklist:

✓ Welcome package (digital or physical)

✓ Session prep questionnaire

✓ Post-session summary template

✓ Progress tracking system

✓ Client success folder (shared Notion or Google Drive)

✓ Between-session support protocol

Every touchpoint is an opportunity to reinforce your premium positioning.

3. Build Authority Assets

Create content that positions you as the expert you are.

Pick ONE of these to focus on this month:

  • Write a detailed case study of your best client transformation

  • Create a free assessment tool in your niche

  • Record a 3-part video series teaching your core framework

  • Launch a small private podcast

  • Write daily LinkedIn posts about client wins

The key?

Quality over quantity. One excellent case study beats 100 generic social posts.

4. Price for Transformation

Stop pricing by the hour. Start pricing by the transformation.

Use this simple exercise:

  1. Write down the tangible results your best clients achieve

  2. Calculate the financial impact of these results

  3. Price your packages at 10-20% of that value

Example:

  • Client result: Landing their first 5 high-ticket clients

  • Financial impact: $50,000

  • Your package price: $5,000-$10,000

If the results you produce are less directly monetary - ask yourself what the “real value” of that result is for people - if you were to put a price tag on it.

5. Create a High-Touch Application Process

Premium coaches don't do free discovery calls with anyone who books them.

Instead:

  1. Create an application form that pre-qualifies potential clients

  2. Review applications personally

  3. Send a video message to qualified applicants

  4. Book discovery calls only with perfect-fit clients

This not only saves your time - it makes clients value the opportunity to work with you.

Start with just ONE of these elements this week. Build from there.

I'd love to hear which part you're implementing first - reply to this email and let me know!
