Measure every step
Hey friend!
Welcome to the Coaching Flywheel — where I share insights from my week to help you grow your coaching business.
Today I’m writing to you from my balcony. In the distance, across the sea, I can see the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Most of us have become immune to the generic “Dream Big” advice that is peppered throughout society and culture. But I look at this tower that stands mightily over everything else and can’t ignore the vision, patience, investment and attention to detail that must have gone into this big dream. All of these traits are absolutely vital to success on your journey to more impact and income as a coach.
With that said, let’s get into this week’s 3 things:
Count the LAPS
In your coaching business, you must define a series of steps your audience should take before they become your client. Think of this as your ‘customer journey’ — the milestones they must pass along the way in order to become your client.
My friend Daniel Priestley teaches a very simple framework that I absolutely love. He calls it L.A.P.S. Leads are the people that subscribe or opt-in for your free experiences (lead magnets, ebooks, videos, newsletters, etc). Appointments are the actual connection calls or discovery sessions you get booked for. Presentations are the actual sessions delivered, where you also invite them to become clients. Sales are the final count of new clients you’ve signed up.
If you don’t yet track these, set up a simple google sheet, add these and start measuring them fortnightly or monthly. You will start to see the trends and where you need to get to work. If you want to get progressively better, if you want to start filling your coaching practice, if you want the flywheel to spin, you should implement this.

Faith over Fear
We all experience feelings of inferiority and doubt. These feelings create a messiness that is sometimes hard to see through. We can’t often figure out what to do next. Too many options make it significantly harder to decipher the right way forward. This is why we coach and why we also welcome coaching. One thing that’s helped me over the years is this simple reminder from Robin Sharma: “If you sense your life’s a mess right now, this is simply because your fears are just a little stronger than your faith.” Once I remember this, the correction is often just a shift in perception.
Managing Focus
In my Leaders Meeting last Monday at the Jay Shetty Certification School, I shared this reflection and reminder: stop managing your time and start managing your focus. Set aside a few moments and choose your focus. What is one core thing, if done with focus, determination and intention today, will move you toward your goals?
Take a moment to let me know what you think on any of these reflections above. I look forward to reading your thoughts. I’d also like to know your top questions. Give me some context and the specific question, and I’ll address it in a weekly email soon.
See you next week.
